Buffalo Shelby Farms

Shelby Farms Park is home to a thriving herd of buffalo*! There are usually around 15 buffalo roaming the Park each year--the number of buffalo fluctuates as calves are born each spring. The herd roams on its own in a nearly 50-acre range that is full of native grass, trees and sunny fields.

The herd is cared for by Park Rangers and by large animal veterinarians. This hardworking team makes sure that the herd’s diet is naturally supplemented and that they are cared for every day.

Buffalo Shelby Farms

Metalsmiths from around the world contributed samples of their work to the Anniversary Gates. The rosettes, typically about the size of a doorknob, show an incredible range of personal statements about the individual artist's interests, national pastimes, and sometimes whimsical design motifs. Many visitors to the Museum spend extensive time examining the Anniversary Gates and their fabulous assemblage of mounted rosettes. Funds were raised from various sources to complete the gates.

The fiberglass horses with themes ranging from gifts to cancer awareness to floral prints were part of a celebration of the 2008 Germantown Charity Horse Show and the brainchild of Tempe Chancellor.  There were 21 horses when they were eventually auctioned.  They landed in various spots around the suburb.  Over the years, some of those 21 have scattered outside the suburb. There are a couple in Mississippi.
